Literature Text

You make me feel self-conscious
I don't know what to say
It's so hard to establish
A sense of intimacy
I think that you might like me
But I can't be sure
I think I'll play it safe today
And presume that you don't

I'm my own worst enemy
Just like that guy once said
It's the habit of a lifetime
Perhaps one day I'll change

We sit here saying nothing
Watching a candle burn
And I get the feeling
You know something that I don't
I'd try to be romantic
But I worry that's cliché
So I just sit smiling politely
You playing on your mobile phone

I'm my own worst enemy
Just like that guy once said
It's the habit of a lifetime
Perhaps one day I'll change

It's easier to pretend
That I don't feel anything
And just hope that one day
That love will come find me

You make me feel self-conscious
I don't know what to say
It's so hard to establish
A sense of intimacy
I think that you might like me
But I can't be sure
I think I'll play it safe (just for today)
And presume that you don't
